Excel

Honestly can say this one was tough for me...I have a Mac so I really had to figure out how to make the comparisons and everything but I finally figured it out!
I live in Virginia and I was pleasantly surprised to see that we are state 45 out of the 53 (DoDEA, National Public, and DC make up the 3 others). That means for 4th grade math Virginia is only worse then 8 states (Mass being the top state). We are above 45 states! Though our neighbor DC is the worse "state." You can see in my scatter plot where VA falls:
As you can see Virgina (highlighted in Red) is above average when it comes to these 2011 scores. This tells me that we are doing something right! We are doing things well! In order too keep these standings I think as a state we need to analyze what is working and see what the states above us our doing to get even higher scores! If we begin to fall we need to make sure that we catch the problem quickly!
Analyzing and creating descriptive statistics from raw data is extremely important. INST NEST T standard 3D states- Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.
Creating excel sheets and analyzing data will help us as teachers know where students are currently, how far they have come, and what we need to work on to get them to go even further. Evaluating and Assessment is so important to make sure we can take our students as far as we possibly can as teachers!

Website!!

So I actually made a website! I know this site will be so useful when I actually become a teacher. You can keep it updated with so many things for parents and students. I feel like it is a good way to keep parents in the loop about what is going on in your classroom which is so important! On my site I have the homepage which can link you to my introduction, curriculum, newsletter, homework calendar, and resources pages. Also on the side bar are links to my resume and a sample rubric.
I think making a website for your classroom hits many of the ISTE NST T Standards.
3B states that we will communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students and parents using a variety of digital formats. I think creating a website where both students and parents can gather information about the happenings of the classroom communicates relevant information though media! Also, 3D says that we will facilitate the effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information to support learning. I think my website does just that! It helps students locate information they need about a project or homework easily. It helps them analyze what is due when though the calendar. It helps parents evaluate my effectiveness as a teacher and use all the information on the site to further their learning!

Rubric Maker

Wish I always had this website!! This was so cool! So, for one of my other graduate classes we had to come up with our own rubric for an assignment. The assignment is to create a curricular resource file which will house tons of multimedia files, worksheets, websites, pictures etc etc all for a certain unit! Then we can make our resource files public for the class to use in the future for actual teaching! My unit I am doing is for the SOL 1.2 (American Leaders) and that is why my quiz I made was on American Leaders and my resource file will be all things I (and other teachers) could use during that unit! Anyways...so we had to come up with a rubric for the resource file and my professor was going to pick one from the ones she got! So perfect timing I was able to use Rubistar and come up with what I think we should be graded on! Here is my rubric! Certainly going to use this website again in the future!
Curricular Resource File Rubric
INST NETS T standard 2A says we will design relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning. I think by making an online rubric that is visible to not only the students but also parents or even other teachers that this is incorporating digital resources to promote student learning and especially student responsibility. If they can see what they are graded on then they will know exactly what we expect of them! 2B says we will evelop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. By making a rubric online they can take responsibility for their own learning by assessing what it takes to receive what grade they want.

Quiz Grader!

So I made a quiz for a Unit I am going to have to teach soon about the Leaders of America. Here is the QUIZ! I had a few people I know take it and was able to watch the YouTube video and figure out how to make it grade its self! Pretty awesome and saves a TON of time! My quiz takers were pretty smart and all got 100s but I got to practice using the formulas and the using the sum function to add up their scores!
Here is the SPREADSHEET if you would like to see the scores!! Happy Quiz Making everyone!

INST NETS T standard 2C states that we will customize and personalize learning activities
to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools
and resources. Creating an online quiz will do just that! It allows students to gain abilities using the internet and some students do better with online work. Meaning, that their learning style is one that a computerized quiz is helpful! 2D says that we will provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments. Having an online quiz is a varied summative assessment and can be used for many different subjects and units.

Google Forms

Here is a survey I came up with that I could use for my classroom! I would probably give this link out in their first take home folder so I could have the results before back to school night so I would know what to highlight and talk about with the parents!
Parent Information Sheet
 Results Spreadsheet

I think making an online parent information sheet would fall under INST NETS T standard 3B- we will Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation. Filling out a parent information sheet about how a parent can support their child's class and learning is extremely important. Getting accurate information digitally to be used though out the school year is important for all teachers to help their year run smoothly.

Prezi

Here is the Prezi Presentation that I made! I compiled the classroom rules I would like to have in my future classroom and made a presentation I could show my students!

I personally think Prezi has WAY more to offer in terms of a "cool" presentation then say Power Point.  I think my elementary school students would think the zooming is the coolest thing and I think they would be more likely to pay attention to what I am presenting. The only downfall I see having better images like the example I am about to talk about. This is not really a downfall its just me getting better with making cool images and graphics. Here is the example I was talking about...As I was learning how to use Prezi I saw some amazing presentations that I hope to one day live up to! Here is one of the ones I thought was so well done that explained what elements a good presentation should have!!

I believe that my Prezi Presentation about my classroom rules addresses many of the ISTE NEST T standards. I think it addresses:
3C-Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students using a variety of media formats.
I think that the youtube video I embedded into my presentation addresses standard 3D which is modeling (modeling respect) by using current digital tools.
Lastly I think the presentation addresses standard 5B which says that the teacher will exhibit leadership by demonstrating technology in the classroom. I think that showing my rules in the form of a Prezi shows my leadership skills while using technology.

PechaKucha

For my PechaKucha Presentation I took the Power Point I made about the rain forest and made a YouTube video about how I (or any other teacher) could use the power point in their classroom! I used imovie because I am a Mac user. I converted the sides into JPEG files and imported them into imovie. At first I tried to upload it directly to YouTube but there was an error so I simply exported it to my desk top and uploaded it by going to YouTube directly. I was able to voice record in imovie and set the slides to show for exactly 20 second. I decided to have some slides pan to add some visual elements so it wasn't so boring. Here is my movie about how to use this Power Point!!
